Who we are
Rework is one of the busiest and best-equipped white goods and domestic appliance repair workshops in the country, providing Londoners with quality refurbished fridges, fridge freezers, washing machines, cookers and more.
We are an AATF (Authorised Approved Treatment Facility) and an ARC member of the Reuse Network and annually assessed as a Business of Excellence.
In the last ten years we have successfully:
· Refurbished 58,000 appliances for resale
· Saved 46,000 items of furniture & bikes for Reuse
· Avoided an estimated 43000t of CO2 through our work
With circular economy at its core, and Powered by Groundwork London, Rework is not only a white goods store, it’s a charitable enterprise providing jobs and opportunities for those Not in Employment Education or Training (NEETs).
Set on the grounds of Wandsworths Recycle Centre, Rework’s team of trainees and engineers take London’s unwanted white goods and repair them ready for reuse, bringing life back into items that would otherwise be sent to landfill. Fridges especially - due to harmful refrigerants and chemicals require specialised handling to prevent environmental damage and ensure proper recycling.
Once refurbished, renewed items are available for sale and distributed to charity retailers and social enterprises who also sell them at accessible prices.Where items are in too poor a condition to be refurbished, their re‐saleable parts are repaired and sold online through an integrated eBay store.
Rework’s employment programme continues to positively impact local people and communities across London through the provision of these goods at affordable prices – and since the Covid-19 pandemic, by providing vital white goods free of charge to some of the most needy members of local communities across London.
Groundwork London
Rework is delivered by environmental and community charity, Groundwork London.
We work with communities across the capital to transform their lives and the places they live. We have been at the forefront of social and environmental regeneration in London for over 25 years, and today we have a simple mission: to create better places, improve people’s prospects, and promote greener living and working.
Employment Programme
Last year our trainees refurbished 5100 electrical items equalling 212 tonnes in the workshop, including washing machines, fridges, cookers, microwaves and other household electrical goods.
These appliances would have been scrapped, broken down or sent to landfill, but instead are returned to full working order and given a second life. This has a significant carbon saving as well as the reduction in waste. Once refurbished we pass them onto charity retailers and social enterprises who sell them at affordable prices. We also have an online shop where we sell spares and parts.
The trainees at the workshop have all been out of work for some time. We employ them as apprentices in electrical engineering and maintenance, helping them to gain the experience and the skills necessary to embark on a new career.
“I’ve been working at REWORK now for nearly two months and have had different roles with the workplace, from helping the engineers re-assemble and repair broken appliances to cleaning and preparing appliances for dispatch. From here, I hope to take my new skills onto my next job.” - Joseph, Trainee
